Recent Water Level Warning Reinforces Need for Emergency Preparedness

Temiskaming Shores – May 1, 2019 – With the recent Media Advisory issued by Public Services and Procurement Canada regarding the water levels on Lake Temiskaming, Mayor, Council and Staff would also like to remind everyone that major emergencies can happen at any time and everyone needs to be prepared.

• Make an emergency plan – it will help your family know what to do in case of an emergency. Your plan should include a family meeting area, escape routes from the neighbourhood, help for those with disabilities, and health information. Choose an out-of-town location where you can go to. Don’t forget your pets. Include location of “pet friendly” shelters/Hotels and how to transport your pets in your plan, then practice your plan and review it at least once a year.

• Prepare an emergency kit – it will help you to be self sufficient for at least 72 hours. Put together an Emergency Survival Kit with at least a three-day supply per person.

• Be informed – check the City’s website, Facebook page, and sign up for Ontario’s Emergency Alerts and learn more about the hazards you may face – this will help you prepare for them.

• The City of Temiskaming Shores also encourages everyone to keep children and pets away from shorelines and watercourses which are well above normal conditions.
The City will continue to monitor weather forecasts, river flows, and water levels. For more information on how you can prepare for emergencies, visit or the City’s website at

Mayor, Council, and Staff would like to thank all residents for their cooperation during this period.
