Age Friendly Community

Thanks to generous funding through the Government of Ontario, the City of Temiskaming Shores has created an Age Friendly Community Plan which was adopted by Mayor and Council in September of 2016.

The development of the plan included consultation with service providers of the older adult population and the general older adult population. Close to 2,000 individuals provided input into the plan. Short, medium, and long term goals that represent communication and information, outdoor spaces and public buildings, housing, social participation, transportation, community support and health services, respect and social inclusion, volunteering, civic participation and employment.

The Age Friendly Community Steering Committee is working to implement the plan and to date has:

  • Hosted an Older Adults Fair in October of 2016
  • Developed an Older Adults Resource Guide (EN) (FR)
  • Developed a weekly coffee hour for older adults (See attached)
  • Received funding to host physical activity opportunities for older adults
  • Coordinated a 1-800 transportation number for older adults (1-800-361-5820)
  • Created an Age Friendly Community Plan (EN) (FR)
