Library Settlement Worker at Temiskaming Shores Public Library
Beginning at the end of February 2024, the Temiskaming Shores Public Library is privileged to have a Library Settlement Worker based out of the Library two days a week to help newcomers to the area with settlement services.
The position is funded through a project with the North Bay and District Multicultural Centre, the Timmins and District Multicultural Centre, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Raghav Chopra is working from the Library on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and is able to help newcomers and immigrants to the area with a number of different services, including:
- Work Permit, Study Permit, and Permanent Residence applications
- Canadian Citizenship applications
- Accessing immigration documents, government services and benefits such as SIN/OHIP/Child Tax Benefits and Ontario driver’s licenses
- Increasing knowledge of English and French Languages
- Social activities and networking with other immigrants
- Employment support
- Professional document translation (for a fee)
- Accessing health care
- Daycares and schools
