Plunging into the world of non-fiction may seem a little daunting. It’s also something that we often think we should be doing. Like, maybe we should put down our favourite cozy mystery and learn something new. Good news, non-fiction can be just as enjoyable as fiction, with the added bonus that everything is true!
For fiction lovers, a great place to start can be memoirs. Memoirs are similar to autobiographies. They are the story of the author’s life, but with a focus on one particular event or series of events. Wild, by Cheryl Strayed, tells the story of the author’s experience hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. The book North of Normal by Cea Sunrise Person, explores the unconventional childhood of the author, growing up in a tipi in the Canadian wilderness. A particularly thrilling memoir by Jon Krakauer, titled Into Thin Air, tells the story of his harrowing experience climbing Mount Everest. You may also want to dive into some hilarious memoirs by famous comedians, including Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. No matter what your interests are, there is a non-fiction book out there for you.
