Committee of Adjustment | 2023-2026 Term of Council

The City of Temiskaming is seeking applications for two (2) volunteer positions, to serve on the Committee of Adjustment, for the remaining term of Council (2023-2026).

The Committee of Adjustment is an independent decision-making body, and its main function is to consider minor variance and consent (land severance) applications, in accordance with the provisions of the Planning Act.  Meeting dates and times are established in consultation with members availability, during regular business hours (i.e. Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.). The meeting schedule is dependent upon applications submitted to the Committee; however, could be once per month. Meetings are primarily held in a virtual format but could be in-person or a combination of both.

An honorarium of $40 per meeting is paid to attending Committee members, to assist with time spent preparing for and attending the meetings.

Eligibility Requirements: Individuals interested in applying to become a member of the Committee of Adjustment should possess:

  • ability to read and interpret the City's Zoning By-law and Official Plan;

  • ability to read, review and analyze development plans, site plans, etc.;

  • familiarity with virtual meeting technology; and

  • a background in planning, engineering, architecture, law, or other suitable experience would be considered an asset.
